Impostor Syndrome has been a known phenomenon in psychology since the 1970s. Millions of people around the world secretly worry they’re not as smart or capable or talented as others “think” they are. It’s called the impostor “syndrome”.

Impostor Syndrome is known among artists and musicians who work in a field of public criticism and subjective standards. It can affect the artistic processes and how one faces the public. There are various forms of Impostor behavior, some artists procrastinate, others become perfectionist and overwork.

In the podcast dr. Young shares insights and tools on how to normalize, understand and overcome impostor feelings.

About dr. Valerie Young:

Dr. Valerie Young is an internationally known expert author of the award-winning book The Secret Thoughts of Successful Women: Why Capable People Suffer from the Impostor Syndrome and How to Thrive in Spite of It (Crown/Random House)

Dr. Young has spoken to students at nearly 100 colleges and universities in the US, Canada, Japan, the UK, and Europe including Stanford, MIT, Cal Tech, Harvard, Oxford, Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology, and University of Copenhagen.

Her career advice has been cited in business and popular media around the world including BBC radio, Time, Newsweek, The Chicago Tribune, Entrepreneur, Psychology Today, Science, O magazine, More, The Chronical of Higher Education, The Sydney Morning Herald, The Globe & Mail, and The Irish Independent.

She earned her doctoral degree from the University of Massachusetts where she was also the founding coordinator of the Social Justice Education program a forerunner to present-day diversity and inclusion training.
